British Council accredited language schools in the UK

Why choose a school which is accredited by the British Council?

The English in Britain Accreditation Scheme monitors and improves standards of management, teaching, resources and welfare in organisations teaching English as a foreign language in Britain.

Schools in this scheme are regularly inspected and a report is produced on each institution. If a school is accredited it must provide:

  • appropriately qualified teachers
  • teaching which meets the Scheme standards
  • accommodation, including homestays, which is regularly inspected and meets Scheme standards
  • safe premises, with properly-equipped classrooms and areas for relaxation
  • brochures and publicity materials which accurately reflect what is provided
  • proper emergency procedures, known to staff and students.

What happens if you want to complain about the school?

If you are a student at an accredited centre and you have a serious complaint, you should:

  • first discuss the matter with the school principal or head of EFL.
  • if no satisfactory solution is found, then refer the complaint in detail and in writing to the Accreditation Unit at the address below.
